I have a 1998 Freelander ! 2Ltr Tdi
It suddenly developed a loss of revs when under load.
If when accelerating it dropped off, by taking my foot off the pedal and straight back on it was OK until the next time maybe a few seconds or longer.
The primer bulb was under suction so I replaced the fuel filter which may have done 2500 miles.
I then checked both lines to the tank and OK.
I had someone use his fault code finder check this out as there were no warning lights on the dashboard. Nothing found.
So I suspect the air mass flow sensor.
Removed it and sprayed it with electrical contact cleaner.
The wires are squeaky clean now but the engine management control
is not happy.
The engine runs but with a rough edge (knocking) to it and not up to power.
So next thing on tick over (or knock over) pulled the plug off the air mass sensor ... no change at all.
So before i source and replace it has anyone had the same problem PLEASE??

check intercooler pipe, mine had this habit until I had a nice chat with it and some BIG cable ties!
