hi all i have a freelander 1.8 petrol on a 54 plate it has only done 40,011 so not alot.
the other day i was driving along and the car judt did not feel right, as i put power in it was dropping for a split second then seemed to sort its self out.
the next day in the morrning (damp) the engine warning light started to flash at me and the same this i had not option but to drive it. after about 5 miles it went off and again seemed to sort its self out so i took it to my local garage and they said it sounds like it could be my plugs so they changed them i watched them do it and the ones that came out where in a right mess. drove away all ok no warning lights good for a few days then yesterday (damp) same thing. a mate said to check the plugs again so i did and notices that on the top of one of them there was alot of soot is this normal and any idears on the problem?

I would take a look at the coils,They are a bit fragile and prone to failure as they get hot.
This happened to mine, missing EML flashing or staying on, only cured after a new set of coils and leads were fitted.
