Hi there. I'm Lawrence, I live in Ibiza. A tip that if you are an out of work mechanic and want to make a fortune, come to Ibiza. They need reliable mechanics.

Anyway, I am in search of an automatic gearbox for me beloved left hand drive Freelander 1, TD4, 2.0 Diesel, Automatic, 2002.

After some rough gear changes I took it to mechanic (1) who diagnosed a faulty oil transmission cooler and water pump. The cooling system was full of brown mayonnaise, disgusting. After driving it once all the new parts were put in, the auto gear changes were still clunky, gear changes slipping, uncontrolled high revs....it was worse than before. He (1) said I needed a replacement gearbox.

I took it to another mechanic (2), much more reputable, and after some more inquiry and diagnosis, he said there was no gearbox oil in the auto-box! Something I thought the previous mechanic (1) checked, but when I asked him, he said he didn't think he needed to. Mechanic 2 did a lot of investigations and he's said there is internal damage to the box, and it isn't financially viable to take it apart to fix. I should find a replacement one.

So, please help me:

- Do you know any Spanish breakers (Barcelona, Valencia etc) who might have such a gearbox?
- Can I use an automatic gearbox from a petrol as a replacement for a diesel, or does it specifically need to be from a diesel?
- Can I use a gearbox from a right hand drive, or does it need to be specifically from a left hand drive?

Sorry on all the questions. This is already a huge challenge, so I do need some help, thank you
