Freeander Shock!!

My new works vehicle has been changed from a Toyota Hilux to a Freelander 2.0 TD4 Commercial, when i saw it parked in the car park i couldnt wait to take it for a spin on site and see what it was capable of, unfortunatley within seconds of getting into it i was disapointed. Trying to get the thing into gear is an art form, locating the gear is like stirring sloppy custard and to actually get it to engage takes a lot of elbow power! I was even more disapointed once i had managed to get it off road as it was completley useless, my usual run around is a defender and i know comparing the two is unfair but i was expecting a lot more from the freelander. To say it is a capable off roader is a joke, and an embarrasment to Land Rover! I'm glad to say that discussions are aready underway to get the Toyota back.

Luckily you've driven a proper Landy before the Freelander or else you might have been put off LR's for life!

Why don't you ask 'em to get a Defender instead?

Holy cow, that is a shock...you mean you actually managed to get the thing started without the HG failing??? fook me!!! All the rest in there is still well beyond one's wildest expectations of these cars!

Sounds like there's something amiss. They will never be as good as Defender in extreme conditions, but are a match for them most of the time. I amuse you're taking about a Freelander 1, so it is used. Has it been used/abused off road, it sounds as if the clutch is on it's last legs. Not their best feature, it is very easy to start slipping then off road, ten they won't last long (that's why 'I got an auto)

Its a Fairly recent freelander (55 Plate) only done 70,000 miles, i suppose it coud be the clutch, probably just take a bit of getting used to

The Freelander is suprisingly capable off road, and will go most places that my 90 will go, and some places that it won't!

Realistically, it isn't a hardcore off roader, and it does require a very different driving style.

theres a patch o grass next to my work n twice weve pulled gaylanders of it n even an all terrain dumper got stuck but 110s have been flying all over it towing drilling rigs

as fer going places defenders dont ye the scrapy

still 70000s good fer a gaylander might be a record milage fer one withoot dying
