Ford Transit adaptor plate?

I've got an old 1980's ford transit 2.5 engine fitted to a series 3, 4speed box, I want to put a newer tranny engine in but dont know if a late 1990's motor will fit the old adaptor plate? anyone know? thanks,

Yes it will, however, avoid tranny engines newer than 1994 ish as the diesel pump incorporates all sorts of electronic trickery, and an immobiliser, linked to the little red chips that appeared in the keys around the same year.

Don't get me wrong, these newer engines will fit, but you might need a 14yr old with a laptop to ever make it run again.
