I am refitting the footwell trim ("Finisher assembly-A post lower" as Land Rover call it) having had it all out to see if I could track down any leaks down the A-pillar but now there is a large gap between the trim and the carpet on both sides which I can't remember being there before. The holes for the fasteners all line up so I must have it right. Do others have a similar gap at the bottom?

Yes, I noticed the same thing on mine, and I didn't remember it being there before either! I just assumed I hadn't noticed it while I was removing the panel. Not a lot you can do about it as there isn't any adjustment there. Maybe you could put some suitably coloured tape along the bottom of the metal panel behind to disguise it a bit?

The panel should slide in and on top of the carpet, with the carpet edge touching the the ‘A’ piller or very close, as it would be when it left the factory.
So, the carpet appears to have a bit of shrinkage, it looks like it has a deepish pile, so is it original?comparing to my D1s carpet which has a short pile and which hasn’t shrunk.

Have u tried to see if there’s any some slack to pull over by lifting the whole carpet in the footwell.

They're all like that sir ! Hi Keith, I've just taken these pics of mine & like you have never noticed any gaps, having said that it's always had mats in it (now black as the original colour matched ones are threadbare).
