looking to have a footwell repaired.
Don't want a cowboy on it. Any ideas of a decent garage in Kent and a rough guide for a footwell to be replaced.
Cheers

Too many factors, is it really just the footwell, its worth doing the front outrigger usually by the time you get the floor out, that's if you take the floor out to do it properly. For a straight footwell panel lift and weld replacement sections over perhaps £250. Whatever has corroded the footwell will usually have done the outrigger.

You could get someone to weld panels over from the inside for 50, but they wont last more than a 3 years.

Just had my for wells, door pillars, top corners, foot rests and one outrigger done by a good Landy garage for just under £2k. I thought it was gonna be about £800,but as posted you don't know how much needs done till you have a good look. Foot wells only cost about £20-22 each, an outrigger £17.00. It's the time and labour. Check out YRM Solutions for the bits including all the fixings. Check you've still got mud shields they protect the foot well but can completely rot away. It'll cost more than £250 by the time your finished.

To be honest I thought this would be a fairly straightforward job as its a known rot point. Seems not? Lots of non Land Rover garages turning the job down, talks of lifting body off or chassis off!
Heading to a Land Rover specialist today so fingers crossed the quote won't be too expensive!
Still looking for any recommended garages in the kent area.

Don't agree with the body off part. I done both mine a while back. Get the parts from YRM as said. They come in two parts and fit very well. Its not a huge job by any manner of means. All going well, pardon the pun, I would reckon £200/£300 in labour + parts (not including sealing, paint etc)

Difficult to say without seeing it. sounds pricey but time adds up. Say your garage is at £50 per hour, they have to remove wiring / wing, remove mud shield, possibly remove pedal boxes, prepare and weld, dress, prime and paint, reassemble. It adds up when you think about it.

Hmm, big difference eh?

Don't overlook the cheaper one. It's December and some garages are happy for the work as people avoid bills they don't need this time of year.

When I got mine resprayed a few years back, I had it done in the Summer. I got it done by a very good body shop with quality DuPont 2k paint. They were happy to take it on at a lower than normal price as it helped keep the workers on the payroll even though there probably wasn't as much profit in the job as they would have liked.

Very big difference which worries me. The cheaper one does seem to work on a variety of cars including old classics. As long as a footwell is a straightforward job and not a Land Rover specialist job, then I may go with them. Both garages said pretty much the same thing about how they're going to go about repairing it. I am worried that it seems too cheap now though?

I'd go with the cheaper one, and I'm not normally driven by cost with such things. From what I've seen from those who have done them themselves, it's not too bad a job - certainly not a Land Rover Specialist job at all. My gut feeling is that the expensive one probably doesn't relish the job and has priced it intentionally high.

Booked in for Monday so a nervous few days await after that!

With a workshop with some classics and appearance of knowing what they are doing, I'd guess the price reflects just that - they know what's needed and aren't ripping the a**e out of the price.... Be good to hear how it goes. A

The idea was to get rid of the rot. Both sides were rotting. The original MOD plate was very crude but purposeful. The garage took it upon themselves to recreate the ridges on the underside to keep it looking original, I had supplied a flat piece. Personally I think it's great work and I'm very pleased. £600
What do you think?
Ps they showed me the photos before the protective coat went on.

Looks a very neat job to me...... I guess the quote was 300 per side...? If you look at miles gained per pound has to be worth it! Glad it worked out well after all the angst! Cheers, A
