Hi all,

Just happened to notice that the filter material at the base of the windscreen is missing on my P38 - there's just a nice big gaping hole so I was going to order up some replacement material to get that sorted. Just not sure what it should be?

I've also noticed that the foam/sponge/filter material on the tailgate where the wiper motor is is also really cruddy and so old it crumbles so was going to replace that too.

I was looking at this stuff on eBay:

BLACK NEOPRENE PLAIN SPONGE/FOAM RUBBER SHEET VARIOUS SIZES 1.5mm - 12mm THICK | eBay

Can anyone advise if it's suitable or not?

Cheers :)

I bought the replacement foam for the scuttle panel as an OEM part from Keith Gott.. literally a couple of quid cut and shaped to fit.

I would advise getting some replacement black flanged self tappers before you start the job (two lengths) as under the door rubber around the windscreen and across the scuttle panel they suffer a bit. I tend to keep a bag of 40 of these in my tool chest as i see little point in doing a job only to replace with rotten hardware, my local tool supply place does about 40 of them for a couple of scheckles.

Oh and wait till the wife is out. You'll probably want to vacuum out the dead botany that's in there

Oh and the other thing,, when you come to remove the windscreen finisher, slide it out to the side youve removed the door rubber from dont pull it up.. there's some white clips that slide into the weather strip rail.. when putting it back together slide them on line them up in place and push it down.

I'm gonna have to find a local independent - don't wanna be paying through the nose at Pentland!

I would also get a set of white retaining clips as well as you may find the old ones are brittle and some may break.

yep good point, those little x shaped arms break off when they get brittle.

I got bored with keep replacing the foam and cleaning the bits out when changing the pollen filters, so got hold of ultra fine stainless steel mesh. Cut to shape with scissors, bends over all the clip points and is held nicely by the frame. Fits like a dream and looks great.

i use a fine plastic mesh from local garden center, also covers the two side vents that the oem filter doesn't
