Hello,

After some advice please.

I have a 2001 auto discovery, there is a fluid coming from what i think is the steering box? Sorry know nothing about mechanics. Could this just be a seal or do you think i will need to replace the box? And would this cost me a fortune?

Thanks in advance for any advice

Scott

Is it leaking from the seal on the drop arm shaft? If so, a replacement kit is available, not too expensive and not a difficult job. You will almost certainly need a puller to get the drop arm off. You don't need to remove the box, but it's easier if you do. Leaks from steering are a certain MOT failure!

The leak is dripping off a long rod type thing?? is that the drop off arm?

This is what it looks like

From the pic. I would say it is fluid leaking from the Steering Box seal. There are a number of parts suppliers that will do the repair kit.

Will a new seal kit solve the problem or am i better off buying a brand new steering box? and if so where is the cheapest place to buy one, online as i live in Channel islands

Thank You

Depends on how much you want to spend. Recon. exchange box will cost approx. £100 and approx. £90 deposit refunded when old box is returned. Repair kit will (I think) cost around £30. Try MxM or Paddock Spares or Land Rover Centre Online Shop for prices. I got an exchange box from MxM, expensive but box came with 1 year garantee.
