flat steering

just picked up a D1 and on the way home the steering felt a bit flat and notchy any ideas on the causes its only really bad at low speeds its like when you turn the wheel theres a flat spot before it turns and the steering is heavy

could be a few things worn ball joints ect, could be the steering box ,the main control arm coming out of the box with the big nut was loose on mine when i got mine,
