Hello everyone.

I was just wondering if anyone can help at all with my problem that I hope is a small one.

I have a 1999 2.5DSE Range Rover that I have just brought, its covered 43k and been fully serviced by Gaydon Land Rover and a main dealer.

The car is extremely slow and unresponsive at anytime, on a (private road) at 80mph there is nothing at all even at 70. The accelerator pealed does not do any thing until the bottom.

I have drove others and they are allot better (none chipped ones) so I think there is something wrong.

Has anyone got any ideas at all please?

Cheers for any advice at all.

the first thing to check would be to make sure fuel pump is running correctly or at all, i normally drain a bit of fuel out of the filter and then turn ignition on to position 2 watch the clear pipe to high pressure pump make sure fuel comes up pretty quick, note pump will only run for about 20 secs at a time this is normal, pump wont run continuosly till engine speed just above 200 rpm,if no fuel check fuel relay under bonnet and fuse of course, you could have a blocked fuel filter although you say its got full service history is the air filter ok and not to clogged with muck,i would not say its the throttle does it start easy hot and cold let me know hope this helps.

There is no smoke / black smoke at all only a very small amount when your foot is to the floor. There also are no oil leaks that I can see. I have checked and replaced the air filter and just changed the oil as it look like tar this was done by APB Trading (Land Rover specialists) who again said the cars performance was the flattest they had driven!

One idea has been that it could be the intercooler, or some of the hoses any other ideas im open to suggestions?

if its intercooler hoses split you will have loads of black smoke, the hoses might be colapsing or delaminating as we call it check hoses by taking them off and having a good look inside fuel consumption will be poor as well hope this helps.

Hi

You could also try the accelerator linkages, both in and out of the car.

Other than what's been suggested already. If the oil is coming out like tar then I'd be tempted to decoke the engine (had to do this with my 89 SE Vogue RRC)
