Have my 2004 td4 with p1190 constantly causing problems and any pointers would save a hot bath & razor blade! I've been reading most of the faults found and must say that the folks on here are brilliant-just one more glimpse of cleverness and we can fix this. The car revs freely out of gear up to 4500rpm and the linkage to the turbo is moving as it should. But the car gets to 1800rpm when driving and falls over and the engine management lamp comes on and stays on until reset with ignition. I've checked the injectors & leak off. Changed the fuel rail sender & loom repair section (and tightened the spade connectors). Replaced the HP fuel regulator. Replaced the fuel lift pump (2nd one as the first new pump was so noisy) & the filter. Filled the filter with injector cleaner and tried that. Checked all the vacuum hoses and operation of the actuators (turbo & EGR) which are working, although the EGR is stiff when working. When I replaced the HP regulator the car drove 6km as opposed to the 2km when the lamp comes on. I'm now thinking it could be the MAF (where do you buy the torx to undo the security screws?) Ive also had to clean out the sender in the inlet manifold which was gummed up with solid oil. It seems that the problem comes in after the engine has warmed up just a little. Sorry to have taken up so much of your time if you've been kind enough to read this, but I'm at the end of my tether. Just to say the local French Land Rover dealer was also stumped and the only suggestion they had was to replace components until they solved it-obviously using my money for their research. C'mon clever folks, what do you think?

Thanks for the interest in my problem and the heads up with the EGR. I've had the live data on my Lynx reading the fuel pressure which climbs to 85000 to 90000 then the low pressure side drops away which I'm thinking is the ecu protecting the system? Is it enough to disconnect the vacuum pipe from the EGR? I'm going to remove the EGR for cleaning tomorrow morning, and see if that improves anything.

Yes , thanks for that, HTR . I've removed all the hoses and checked them over for holes and 'squishiness'. Replaced them for new items, but still the same. I have had a hose go before with a smallish hole but couldn't believe the lack of power. On that occasion the engine management lamp didn't come on.

P1190 is a fuel pressure plausability issue, I would first look at the low pressure side. You say the pressure drops off when you rev the engine. this could be a weak low side fuel pump which is a common fault on these.
Also it may be worth doing an injector leak off test, remove the leak off pipes from the injectors, clamp the return pipe and disconnect the wiring to the injectors. Now crank the engine and watch the fuel in the leak off ports it should rise very slowly, if it is running out any faster you are losing pressure there. Having said that the low pressure side is the most likely issue.

Thanks owl, the fuel pressure drops as the ems flicks on which I think is its safeguard. However, ive just spent this morning putting everything back and out for a test drive. I got to the usual turnaround and set off in second gear and the ems lit and stayed lit and started to drop into its usual limp state. I then pulled off the vacuum hose to the turbo actuator (as suggested by someone else equally brilliant as others on LZ). This put the ems on but the car was driveable albeit a little slower to accelerate but didn't drop into limp mode and the cutting out problem. Now about to check back on the forum to find what part is doing this, how to fix it and who to thank-which is everyone that contributes! I think we're really close to fixing this, cheers

There is a boost control solenoid on thr right hand rear of the engine and an air filter for it on the bulkhead above, both can get blocked the result of which will be the turbo won't adjust properly. The solenoid can be opperated using T4.
