Freelander 2 (LR2) FL2 - reliable?

Hello Landy fans and gurus...

Based in South Africa, I'm thinking of buying a 2013 FL2 (LR2 I think its commonly known as outside SA). A SD4 SE to be exact. Only 60000km.

It would be my first LR product. From what I've read and heard, it seems to be a very reliable vehicle. I thought I'd check in with you guys to see if you've had similar experiences?

Are there any preventative maintenance things that should be done?

Your insight would be very welcome as I don't want to buy something that will cost me $$ and time in the garage.

That's unusual, most people love the thought of that !

Any car can have problems - the only way to budget avoiding the possible costs is to pay for a decent warranty.

I have one they are nice to drive, and renowned as one of the more reliable JLR products, so much so they have stopped making them.
I think there was a good deal of Ford in them, and I think they were built in hailwood. I understand the transmission is the same one as used by Volvo in their 4x4 offering, and the engine was developed by Ford and Peugeot and seems to be well respected. They are not know as rust buckets, but JLR are certainly not known as the most reliable vehicles on the road, best to check the history and if you are happy then jump in.

The aftermarket warranties in South Africa aren't the best. I'd have to settle for one that still has factory warranty left.

@raywin - thanks for the feedback. Didn't know that about the gearbox. Does make me a feel better.

Try googling haldex unit, or go to the fl2 forum there's lots of stuff on there which may interest you.
