I have and also other members used MAF cleaner limited success I have to say, worked for a while but the reverted back and became sluggish again good look Arctic2

PS always best to replace security screws with self tapers as in last pic makes life easier when changing the insert

Thanks for pictures. It is behind the air filter, right? Think I've seen when I changed it in summer.

Ok, I think I'll try it anyway. Bought Liqui Moly, people would be very good one and would like to check my other problem in 4th gear with it. Have it described in here http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/4th-gear-accelerator-lack-270287.html

Yes it is behind the air filter, but to clean it properly I would take the whole unit from car, if not you would still need to remove the insert clean that, then remove the air filter cover, remove the air filter and clean the MAF case from within the space the removed filter as left.

below is how I re-fitted and new one on the R75 M47 engine

PS Liqui Moly ? is this stuff residue free if not it can damage the fine wire on the MAF, if that is what you are or going to use it on.
where as Isopropyl is an electric contact cleaner and leaves no residue behind

Ok, just had a look bit earlier and saw that I could take it off from the rear top as well. Want to change the air filter anyway again, so will better take it off, I guess. Hope I have the right bit here to take it off. Didn't work when I tried earlier.

Liqui Moly is a special cleaner for the maf. The stuff is usually used by garages as far as I know. They produce all kind of that high quality things for cars. Here is a link to the description for the cleaner LIQUI MOLY - Motor Oils, Additives, Car Care - Products - Air Flow Sensor Cleaner . It's residue free.

Thank you, I have noticed the short while I have been on this forum most members do not add there name in the about me or at the end of any post, and also what FL they have ie 1.8, 2.5, or TD4

makes it difficult at times to react to reply to certain posts, cheers Steve

Was wondering how I could disconnect the maf, as I read in the 70mph post that I could test it with it. I thought I could just pull the plug, but seems I need take off the lid of the air filter first. Can't access the link to rover forum. Registered but doesn't work.

I couldn't get maf off, could it be that the torx are looking different, as it seems there is kind of a nose inside? Never seen one like that before.

Yep, you need to take the air filter cover off to disconnect the MAF. Put it back on though as one of the bolts lets out oil!
Then drive it. If it is better up to 2500rpm you have found the culprit.

The Torx screws are special ones. I got some from Rover Ron. (Energy Tuning)

Hi Matthias
There is a little trick you can use to remove the torx with in nipple insert if you do not have the right torx pics below

Use a flat blade as below

size is 0.5x3p

but any good strong small flat blade which fits into the gap will remove them, replace with ordinary self tap screws, Arctic2

PS I will post on your other thread about oil from engine cover bolt I may have the solution for you

It comes out of the one you are having problems with if you don't have one in place.

I seem to remember Teddywood had a similar problem a while back.

The engine cover has Allen Key screws (on mine). The MAF has special torx ones.

Hi Steve,

Still not sure how to get it off. Took off the engine cover, then there is one screw underneath the maf, where the one clamp is an i couldn't find any any further. Anything I forgot to get it off?

Hi Matthias.
I have not fitted one to the FL 1 yet but as they are a similar set up to the R75 M47 there should be a torx bolt top right and one bottom left below is when I fitted the R75 one hopefully it will help, as I do not have time at the moment to take the air filter cover off and check cheers Arctic2
