Well i took my 95 300 tdi auto round to my mate that does my MOTs for me for a check on what the disco may need for the mot, i knew some welding was required as per usual, but its pretty bad under there so the dilemma is do i repair it or find a better one, it runs very well with everything working im gutted but what do you do ?

I would say its better the devil you know, so fix it.

As you say everything else is fine so you will know you still have a reliable motor. Just make sure the rot is removed and not just plated over and give it all a good coat of waxoyle or similar to keep it at bay.

Thanx horse im starting to think along those lines too, you never know what your gonna buy if you go for another one.

When I saw it at the weekend, it was in condition on the outside so I'd say put it back to it's former glory on the underside.

If you buy another, it'll have the same problems unless you can get a Jap import straight from there that hasn't been sitting in the UK. And at the end of the day, if you subject it to what we were doing at the weekend then it isn't ever going to be perfect :D

i srapped mine ok granted i needed a new gearbox, windscreen four shocks and springs plus a vic check. But i wasn't going to be buying another disco just yet. In your case i would fix it. Like others have said if it runs and drives then sort out the rotten bits. Finding a good disco is getting harder(as i've found) PLus there is alot of **** out there thats been made to look good. Treat the old girl to some fresh metal, and in return she will give you a few more years service.
