OK I have searched the forums to find out why it's so hard to get a Sony stereo to work FULLY in a Range Rover.
When I say FULLY - I refer to all the Blutooth technology and not just the normal radio and cd functions.
I had purchased from a well known ICE supplier in Newport, the ISO leads needed even though I already had a set as the guy told me 'not to guess' if I had the right leads so with his 'expert' advise, I purchased the 'correct' ones.
BUT - the ISO's that are available from Autoleads are not wired correctly - for my year of car at least. Whether this is the case for a slightly earlier or later year I do not know. But the ones I have are supposed to cover upto about 2002 I think and mine is a 1999.
The problem I have been getting and a good few others it seems is this:
The functions all work as they should but when the phone is paired with the head unit (easy to do), music streaming works great but PHONE CALLS don't work properly. When I say that I mean that you can make calls and recieve calls - and all through the head unit, but you CANNOT HEAR THE OTHER PERSONS VOICE AT ALL. They can hear you just fine, but not the other way round.
If anyone has found this in their case, and I've even heard that people have taken their head units back to the store becaus of this, then this is what you have to do:
There are 3 blue wires coming from the head unit (not including any speaker wires here)
One is pale blue and is not part of the ISO loom and should have a label 'ATT' on it - IGNORE this one.
The second blue wire we're interested in is labelled REMOTE and should have a yellow plastic sleeve on it and a clear silicone sheath covering the female plug on the end. This is not part of the main ISO bunch of leads but a seperate one.
The third blue wire is actually part of the ISO loom and mine had NO markings whatsoever. While all the others do. But this lead, when you follow it up to the actual car looms' ISO plugs, is linked to 2 black and white wires. These black and white wires switch on the amplifiers in all the doors and this is how you get sound from the speakers and we NEED THESE AMPS ON TO HEAR A CALLERS VOICE DURING A Blutooth call. (note - If these are not connected for some reason, you will never hear audio from the speakers even though ISO speaker wires are connected.)
THIS IS WHERE THE PROBLEM IS with the Autoleads ISO you will buy in the store. This is because the way it is connected 'out of the box', it will just switch your amps off - so there is no sound when trying to listen to a callers voice during a Blutooth call from your phone through the head unit. But it will give you sound on every other setting including music streaming from your phone.
Take this blue wire (the third one) out of the ISO block and replace it with the REMOTE wire. Both blue wires are triggered to go live by turning the head unit on, but the one we have taken out of the ISO block (that was connected originally as part of the ISO loom) is actually a mute wire for the audio signal to enable a phone call to be made when using a hands free kit - (NOT the same as Blutooth!) We do not want this function!
Simply take this blue wire (the third one) out of the ISO block and replace it with the REMOTE wire as I have said.
As this REMOTE wire is NOT a MUTE wire, it leaves your amps (and subsequently your speakers) ON - while the head unit is switched on of course!
Yipeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are now able to make and receive Blutooth enabled calls through your head unit and hear the other persons voice!
I hope this helps someone out there who is having a similar problem.
All the best.
