Hi , I am thinking of buying a 1997 Discovery which for some reason does not have the fold away side facing boot seats. My plan was to get some second hand seats and fit them. Has anyone tried this with success?

I have just removed some from mine (not for sale though sorry) and there were four brackets attached to the bodywork and the seats attached to them by 6 bolts, two up top and four down low.

Easy to do but getting them lined up properly to fit through the linings might be a pain. The top brackets are held in with smallish bolts and the bottom ones held in with two bigish and one bigger bolt, I'll have a look tonight when I get home for you. But it you've got a rivnut tool (or a couple of spare nuts you can drill out) they should do the job.

Just drilling and tapping might not be secure enough but I'm new to this tinkering with the car innards lark. So hopefully someone else will be along shortly

Here is a pic of behind the drivers side dickie seat on my 98 300tdi.

The top two outlined in red are the top brackets, I think they are held in with two 10mm vertical bolts into the gutter under the window and one going into the bodywork. And the bottom two outlines and the three holes with which the bottom brackets are secured to the body.

The yellow things are what the plastic, erm I'm not sure what they are called.. 'pop rivets'??? go into to hold the trim in place.

If you want a bigger pic that you can zoom into PM me with your e-mail address
