recently bought 2xfront abs sensors which came with 2 copper looking sleeves,gave them to the local garage to fit for me,but the mechanic reckons there should be another sleeve aswell??

There should be one sleeve for each sensor. Remove old sensor. Remove rubber cap. Remove old sleave. New sleeve greased up with silicone grease then slid in. Then rubber cap re-fitted, then sensor greased slightly and pushed in until it touches reluctor ring.

i never got to see the old ones come out,but i was under the impression that the new ones were comlplete,which seems to be the case.the guy in the garage has fitted them but said he had to make 2 sleeves/collars.might explain why im getting abs fault reading.when looking at the new sensors,they dont seem to be inserted as far in as the old ones were.

Sleaves are to spring load the sensor in place. There should only be one on each sensor. The sensors MUST be pushed in until they touch the reluctor ring. They will set an air gap when wheel turns.

also,can you buy the sleeves seperate?as i have a feeling they may now be damaged if they have been forced in along with the home made sleeves.

The copper sleeves sit inside a mild steel bush/sleeve (well mine do anyway, had to chisel mine out then cut them off abs sensors) got both sleeves from Rimmers.

Mines 2000M/Y wammers, part ftc2249 abs sensor adaptor genuine land rover. Mines just failed MOT on anti roll bar link arms dust covers split both sides (strange that, both new last year) and drag link ball joint worn.

Drag link N/S joint is a known problem. Split dust covers on steering joints are advisories not fails, according to new test. As anti roll bar links are not steering joints but suspension joints, split covers are not a fail as far as i can see. Advisory maybe but not a fail.

Get your point re anti roll bar links, dont take many cars for MOT now adays and the tester guy has been pretty fair with me over time so going to change them anyway and a complete drag link not worth my time trying to get joint off other end.

Did you push the sensors right in till they touch the ring ? if you did and the abs light is still on then it looks like it needs the fault codes read, could now be a sensor fault.

I just changed mine, only had one bush to change each side, there are tabs on the bush so when the sensor is pushed in it automatically sets the air gap. Never seen ones with 2 bushes either, seems pointless. Really though its a 15 minute job.

As far as i know the only tabs are on one end of the bush to prevent it being pushed through the holder. There are no tabs on the bottom of it. Some do have two bushes to accomodate different diameter sensors. Sensor is pushed in until it is hard on reluctor ring, turning action of reluctor ring when driven sets air gap.

Yeah tabs are on the bushes leaving about an 1/8" sticking up where the top of the sensor bottoms out or they did on mine, tbh never looked that close to see if there was another bush, just pulled the old sensors and bushes then stuck the new ones in, still seems wrong to me that 2 sizes could be fitted, never seen any mention of that when I was shopping around for mine.

Well looking at the parts on Rimmers site. There are two different sensors up to 96 then 97 on. But only one brass sleeve size and what looks like a plastic adaptor. Mine is a 99 and does not have adaptors, so either the hole size changed in the hub or the sensor size changed. There are single sensors and double sensors. So would think the double ones are for TC and the single ones just for ABS. Don't really know.
