Looks like you’ve not quite lined them up right - it’s a right faff involving wiggling axle to get the plate to sit down properly before tightening the shackle. That centre nut needs to be dead centre in the hole when it’s right. A few mm makes the difference I found when I did mine a couple months back.

Thanks. They did seem to fit nice and flat on the axle, but will take them back off and try again.

I'll check the ones I'm working on tomorrow can measure as all in bits its a S2 59 diesel...you do know the springs are handed left and right though...

Thanks Mate, No I didnt know they were handed, but Im sure I tried both sides, is one narrower then the other ?

No drivers side has a deeper bow to compensate for extra weight..
OK Will watch for that, are the rears sided to, hope not as Ive just spent 2 hours on my own up my yard putting one on the rear, put it on Drivers side, so not sure if Ive put the right one on or not knowing my luck it will be wrong.

i dont think the rear matter but could be wrong, i did mine and really struggled by myself so be carefull, i had mine on blocks at each end and inbetween, when i ordered my parts i found these guys,, l.r.series land rover parts website they have good pics of the ubolts listed with the corresponding number of leaves and sides that they match plus close ups of the bolts and washers, shackles etc ,
mine was an inch or 2 off level at the front but has bedded in level after a couple of hundred road miles and loosening the bolts and retightening,
atb

I dont think his U bolt problem will change...yes never tighten shackle bolts till vehicle on ground and settled....

I guess you clamped either side of centre bolt with big g clamps before tightening nut
Same number springs on my s3 diesel 88 front and back is axle sitting down properly on top of springs as above the top nut can hit the casting rather than in middle of it.
