Has anybody fitted aircon to there landy form scratch?
How much did it cost, and how easy was it to do?
I've been thinking about it for a while, and just trying to work out if it's really worth it!!!!

And before anyone says, the answer isn't to buy a model with aircon already fitted!!!!:D Just thought i'd get that in before someone else did!!!
 
Condenser, compressor, reciever dryer, switch, relay, harness, pipework, pressure cut out switch, heat exchanger. Removal of heater box, draining coolant, fitting and vac & regas. Shed loads of cash, probably about 3 or 4 days work. Not really worth it.

Try opening a window.
It usually does the trick.

I bet you don't know how much fuel an aircon unit uses.

Nope, not a word.

I cannot imagine why anyone would want to add all that complicated expensive space-wasting useless fuel-guzzling junk to a engine for a car in GB-land.

He'd be better just taking a cold beer out the fridge if he's too warm.

And opening a window.

There was an episode of mythbusters dealt with the 'air-con' over 'open windows' debate a while back.

Turns out it's dependent on road speed in most cars - at higher speeds the air-con was more fuel efficient than opening a window as it messed with the aerodynamics less than opening windows.

At low speeds air-con, while much more effective at cooling, was a lot more expensive on fuel.

Not sure this would affect a defender much - as, for a start, high speeds are more or less out of the question anyway and at full speed would you notice the economy drop by much as it's pretty **** poor anyway? :D
 
No i was just asking the question to see, but know i won't be bothering,
I'll just stick with opening the window and cold beer idea,
It could be worst, i could have to wind the window, instead of pressing a little button!!!!

I would rather spend the money on a good fridge, battery, dual batteries system and solar panels.......and get plenty of beer from the savings of fitting the air-cond....;)
