Hi everyone.

I just got a tuning box for my 2005 RR vogue.

No mechanical knowledge but thought i might have a go at fitting it myself. Had a look under the bonnet. I reckon the common rail sensor is right at the back of the common rail and diff to feel never mind see.

Anyone fitted one of these and know if that's the correct plug? Does it just pull out? is it possible to do the installation without removing anything else?

If i get the plug out - do i have to trim the connectors?

Should i just ask my mechanic to fit it for me?

Also, anyone got any advice about insurance company attitude to these? Should i tell them? Would they likely hike the premium?

Thanks in advance.

Dead easy to fit,

I'm guessing its a TD6 if its a 2005 model?

I've just bought a tunit one (and taken it back off two weeks later) and had one fitted to my previous TD6 as well. The connector is on the rear face of the cylinder head (facing the pasenger compartment bulkhead) to the right hand side of the engine block. Most of the TD6 units take there power from the common rail connector too so its just one plug into the sensor, link the existing wiring harness into the tuning box, tie wrap the box and wires somewhere safe and away you go. 5 to 10 mins max if that

If you've not already got a box or if anyone else reading this link is interested I've got a 1 month old tunit V-CR for a TD6, they gave very good power gains on my last one and 20 percent fuel improvement up from 22mog average to 27 but did nothing for my current car as I've found out its already been remapped so the box was not needed and caused havoc with the limp mode/over fuelling.

I was going to ring tunit for a refund this week or failing that I was going to stick it on ebay at £250 (£450 new), really good piece of kit just not needed this time, more info at www.tunit.co.uk.

Hi

thanks for the reply.

Going to have another go at fitting it. If i have found the correct plug - i will be able to feel it but not see it right? Then i just pull it out?

I already have a "pro-bitz" box from ebay. Cost a lot less than the tunit one, hope it is as good!

Update;

Found a mirror very useful!!

I identified the wrong plug 1st (with a metal retaining clip) but fortunately was unable to make the connectors fit.

I then identified the correct plug (with orange interior). bit fiddly but seemed to install OK, red light on unit.

Got a warning message on startup to say HDC inactive. Took for a spin seems fine. tested hdc - seemed OK. Restarted car - no messages.

So - seems to be a success so far - time will tell.....

Anyone any ideas about telling the insurance company? I use RBS royalties.
