Fitting a heated rear & front Window to older Def 90...is it possible / practical?

I have a Def 90 ( 1989) Van and was hoping to fit a heated front & rear window. The original front glass is in pretty poor condition with millions of micro chips which make it a pain to see through in sunlight etc but still seems to be ok for mot!!
I have done a search but not found posts relating to replacing standard glass.
Can anyone advise if this is possible or practical etc?
Ideally i would also like to fit a rear wiper or swap the door complete if anyone knows of a working one anywhere.
I live down near Portsmouth so closer to that would be better if possible.

It's easy to change a windscreen on a fender they are fitted using the old fashioned rubber seal which is an easy diy job. Google it for instructions. Can't see it being rocket science to wire up heated glass either.
 
Kev, I fitted a replacment rear door screen last week after smashing it, It took an hour to do and was simple.
Get your new heated screen (arround £50 if new), a tube of black SIKAFLEX sealant from screw fix (black silicone would do fro B&Q) and away you go, get somebody to give you a hand to steady the glass whilst you screw the trim back on, dead easy.

The front one is less messy, remove the centre filler strip from the rubber trim, carefully prise out the glass rrom the rubber, (a new rubber is best when refitting).
Fit the new rubber on the new glass first, Spay a small amount of soapy water on the rubber as you go arround squezzing it in, again this needs two people, three even better! Fitting the rubber filler strip is tricky but patients will have it in, (there is a special tool to assist with this) but a large straight screewdriver will do, just mind the glass!
The wiring should be straight forward, basically each screen will need a live and neutral feed rated at 20amps and fused seperatley, they should be controlled by individual relays but both relays can be activated by the same switch mounted on the dash,

Any idea of best place price wise or are they all similar?

I saw the routine for installing a new front one with the string etc but was thinking of maybe getting that done by supplier incase of a disaster!!!

Rear one looks dead simple apart from wiring which i will have to have a think about as this will obviously need running from new as heated glass not there before.

Any further help / info on recommended parts & methods would be greatly appreciated.

Autoglass have just been a fitted me a new one after the missus backed into the garage wall and shattered the glass after creasing my back door.:mad::mad::mad::mad: There can't be many motors where you can 'Tap':eek: the back door into shape with a sledgehammer and then fit new glass like nothing ever happened, :cool::cool::cool::cool::cool: Had it done through insurance so just had £50 excess to pay:D
 
I've got a spare rear wiper motor with new wiper arm and blade. Let me know if your interested as I'm just up the road.

If it is a worker, what sort of dosh are you looking at?
Is the washer included by any chance?
I'm looking to fit these to a van door which did not have one previously so be nice to get all in one go!

Washer is fitted to roof above door, the pipe runs all the way back to the washer bottle with two pumps and wired in through a switch on the lower dash.... just incase ye were wondering;)
Another thing to check would be the wiring loom to see if it has the wires for rear wiper motor and heated glass.
Only saying this as ah didn't have the wires on me old loom, but changed it with one that did..... just don't have a wiper motor!:doh:

I need to test it as I don't want to sell it if it's knackered.

Yes, it has the washer and nut.

Brand new wiper.

If I get chance in the week I'll test it and PM you - if not it'll be the weekend.
 
Subsea, bad news I'm afraid.

The small motor that drives the mechanism is missing - as this just screws in, it might be possible to buy a replacement. The remainder is all there, including the return to park, washer and nut.

Let me know if you're still interested, otherwise it's fleabay in a couple of weeks.....

I am really looking for a worker complete at the minute, got to much other stuff to do without fitting a "repairable" unit. But appreciate the update and good luck on the 'bay.
