Looling to do a chassis swap on the series 3 rebuild project- Richard's seem to be the go-to source. But I want to recondition and fit the 19j diesel from my old 90 in place of the now-absent 2.25d. I've read that this causes issuea with the RH engine mount fouling the injection pump, and the usual solution is to cut and reweld the chassis to fit.

Now, I'm reluctant to do this on a new galvanised chassis, so is there another way? If there's no bolt-up solution, would it be possible to get the chassis made with defender engine mounts instead?

Only way is to cut the chassis I am afraid. I'm in the same boat as I don't want to cut the new chassis so I am looking for a replacement 2.25d to fit.

The 19j block is much the same as a the 10j block. I have heard of some who extended/adapted engine mounts [metal block] to gain the clearance needed.

Just had this back from Richards:

Hi Pete
Yes we can fit Defender style engine mounts to you 109 series 3 chassis. You would need the engine mounts on the block to be the same type and these interchange between the early blocks. We don't charge and extra for this as it is a small conversion.

So looks like a bolt-in solution is possible then :)
