Hi all

I fitted my fairey free wheeling hubs tonight .

I just wondered how can i test them to make sure they are engaging and dis-engaging ??

I jacked the front end up tonight and rotated the wheels and tried the hubs on lock and unlock and i could tell any difference

How can i test them to make sure they are working ok ???

Many thanks all

Cheers chris

if them is dis engaged , i.e, no drive, then only that wheel should turn when yer turn it by hand
if yer engaged then with one wheel orf the ground the prop should turn

So let me get this right then

The transfer box is in high range jack the whole front end off the ground so both front wheels are clear

With the hubs dis-engaged i should be able to turn the wheel by hand and when the hubs are engaged when i turn the wheel the prop should rotate

Is that correct ??

no, if yer got both wheels off the ground and both hubs engaged then the opposite wheel will probelly turn the opposite direction unlees there is some resistance and then yer prop will turn. originally i thought yerd be doing them one at atime and therefore the opposite wheel would be on the deck

Put it in 4WD (or low range) then jack up 1 front wheel. With the hub locked it shouldn't turn, with it free, it should. (the other front hub should be locked as you do this)
