Hello All,

Tom Here. I hail from Scotland but have Lived in Colchester Essex since 1990 having left the army then. Whilst in the Mob i had the pleasure of driving Series ii and the New 110 defenders. I then transferred to the Milan Platoon and drove Forward control's and Land Rover portees. (Land Rover 110, stripped down to an open top, carrying a Wombat 120mm recoilless rifle)

Having left the Army I have had a variety of vehicles but I had always longed for a Land Rover but never got round to buying one. That changed this year when on the 6th June 2014 I bought L971 EUD a Land Rover Defender 200TDI County Station Wagon.

I bought her from RST Landrovers in Mersea. I saw her and wanted her. Whilst going through the MOT before purchasing her she failed with a few items one being a corroded rear cross member. A bit of welding has sorted that out. The guys there have been awesome. Rodney and richard have both been stars.

Since taking ownership of her i have amassed a rather comprehensive set off tools, duct tape, drills, breaker bars etc.

I have bought and fitted a winch bumper and Warn 9.5XP winch. I picked that up from Humberside. I made the journey into a bit of a road trip. I meet an old Army friend from Scotland in Ripon Yorkshire on the Saturday Having left him to his own for the evening I had a play on an off road track just off the Ripon Dishforth road. Now that was fun.

I slept in my hammock in the Land Rover overnight in the East Yorkshire moors, and picked the winch up from Beverly Humberside on the Sunday morning. I put 600 miles on the clock that weekend.

Fitting the winch was a good introduction to what I was capable off doing. I had originaly thought of getting someone to fit it for me but I figured what the hell, just get on with it your self. That taught me a bit about Land Rover electrics, running cables along the chassis, and the inevitable fun of not having the wiring instructions for a second hand winch that had the control wires remade in a variety of wrong colours. Isn't screw fix amazing!

Since then I have fitted a Massai Steering guard, this required a bit off power tool action to make it fit under the bumper. i have also fitted a Massai Snorkel. Again some fun with a drill and silicone sealant.

I have been exploring some off the green lanes between Colchester and Saffron Walden since having her. Bywaymap.com has been on my screen more times than anything.

And the future. Well i'm booked in for a new suspension upgrade in September. I plan on taking her to Morocco in probably january when I get more holiday.

I have been to both Kenya and Morocco on numerous occasions but I was hiring vehicles there and these were typically Pajeros. I rattled tegh bull bars off a Pajero in Kenya 2 years ago whilst playing ion the desert between Archers Post and Marsabit.

Id love to meet up with other Landy Owners and share info (Well i'll share info when i get it), trip and green lane information etc.

Glad to be here

Tom
