I decided to call my new (15 year old!) RRC 'Monty' There is a blip in the power now & again & he has
told me it is a very slightly tappety. I think if its bad enough I'll stick a new camshaft in etc. Seems
an easy enough job, I'll also swap the tappets & rockers etc. All seems easy enough (It's a LONG time
since I did my 381 C&G, as I went on to become an electrical engineer as opposed to Motor Vehicle
Technician!) How important is the pre-load on the tappets etc? What else would be required parts wise &
is there any other (cheap) job whilst I'm in there? I want to sort the tappets out first, then borrow an
ECU to try sort the 'missing a beat' as its already had a new dizzy, new rotor arm, plugs, leads etc. I
can get a used ECU for £90 with a 30 day returnable warranty. I'm not suggesting the tappets/cam are
causing the blip, but I really would like a nice smooth sounding V8 before I go any further, or am I
talking bollocks & there's miles more important things that this???

Some kind of a checklist would be good, is the one on the Rover V8 site (rpi I believe) any good, or
anything you chaps know?

Cheers

bugger. that wasn't supposed to happen. Highlights the fact that your
line-lengths are dodgy though :)

I'm just a simple poster matey, I use OE as its **** easy to use! Pray tell, what wasn't supposed to
happen??

Do you mean sentence lengths or general word wrap type lengths?

I generally use this type of posting method, easy to reply to & easy to read.

I've just ditched OE in favour of Mozilla. Faster and very similar to
use, but not as silly about opening dodgy stuff as OE can be. People
at work use it for Usenet as well (and rate it), though I'm sticking
with Agent.

Your wrapping lengths seem rather long, and your sig could do with a
separator (two dashes and a space). It will then be snipped from
replies, so threads don't end up stupid long with loads of repeat
sigs.

Heard about Mozilla, isnt it a mac based prog? My only reason for using OE are the thread based view &
the fact I can use it!!!

My sig isn't generated by the PC, I actually 'sign' my posts by hand!

Macs? Nasty 'orrible things, loved by everyone who loves them. Cue
Nikki....

Mozilla is cross-platform, so available for various pooters.
Thunderbird is the mail/news system, Firefox is the browser or you can
get both together under the 'Mozilla' name.

http://www.mozilla.org/projects/thunderbird/

Apart from some very specific issues with certain websites who should
be able to do better, and some sites I use which have a lot of active
content (e.g. GotoMyPC which I use a lot) I no longer have any use for
IE or OE.

For newsgroups only, I'd recommend Agent (or FreeAgent if you want a
free version). http://www.forteinc.com

One day I'll finish writing my SQL based news client. It will be
awesome, honest....

I'd go with either recommendation. Although you can make OE behave if you
try. I use full paid-for 1.9 Agent for mail and news, and Mozilla as a
browser - in fact, I donl;t install the mail and news bits of mozilla.
However, the full mozilla has advantages over fire-whateveritisthisweek,
most notably the ability to have different user profiles.

Try adding OE-quotefix, it attempts to fix a lot of Outhouse Distresses worst
excesses

k off Tim... I've been trying to write a web based usenet app under
python (using mailman) for about a year... time-n-all...
