FIP gasket

probably a daft question but why do you need to disconnect the battery to change a gasket on the injector pump?

If you're following instructions from Rave they tell you to disconnect the battery for just about everything; and probably for changing the wiper blades.

There is no section in RAVE for changing injection pump gaskets as far as i am aware. So don't know where you got that from. It depends which gaskets you are changing. Top one easy. Next one down a world of pain if you don't know what you are doing. As long as you don't switch the ignition on whilst it is stripped, no need to disconnect battery.

cheers for that Wammers. I didnt read it in rave. i have read it on posts on here. i think rave instructs you to disconnect battery when removing intake manifold.

Suppose you could if not careful drop something onto starter live feeds, so no harm in doing it in that case.

You are not getting anything. There is not a lot that can go wrong removing manifold with battery connected. But to be safe rather than sorry disconnect it.

ok, fuel leak fixed. Most awkward bit was undoing the manifold nuts without dropping them. Also replaced MAP or MAF hose (can't remember which one,) top of fuel filter to underside of manifold. did find something at the back of the manifold, next to the breather pipes that looked like a hose with a rubber bung on the end. maybe a sensor? is it supposed to just sit there or should it be connected to something?

It's the MAP sensor do you have EGR? Is it a rubber hose or a plastic pipe with a rubber end on it?

no EGR. it is a thin rubber one coming out of a wider sleeve about 3to4 inches back.

Not a clue, have you got a photo?

pics are not great but one shows it looking end on and the other shows its location(just) It looks a bit red in the pic but it isnt, it is black. will try get better pic tomorrow.

This seems to coincide with something I've been wondering about too ...
I had a bit of an oil leak from the rocker cover and when tightening it down found two plastic pipes about 7mm dia. at the rear of the engine, just at the back end of the rocker cover. They're not fixed and look like breather pipes or expansion pipes of some sort. The bend in them would seem to be to prevent any fluid being drawn in ... what are they?
(good news is tightening the rocker cover stopped the leak which was running all the way down then getting blown back onto the exhaust. Smell of bunt oil now gone! )
