Hi all,

I've just recently lost my granddad. He's had many Land Rovers over the last 60 odd years on his farm, from the very early ones through the Series to a '92 Defender and latterly a '94 Discovery 1 and ending up with '03 Discovery 2 which is still in the family. My first memory of his vehicles is a 1982 88 inch Series 3 which I was taken to primary school in on many occasions. It was eventually sold to make way for the Defender and was seen on the farm a few times in following years as the local sheep shearer had purchased it. He then must have sold it as it wasn't seen of again for over 20 years.
In 2014, I was driving over Snake Pass from Sheffield to Manchester and I immediately noticed a rather tatty old Series 3 coming towards me ( multi coloured panels, grill missing etc) in the town of Glossop in Derbyshire. I was rather shocked when it got close enough to read the number plate as it was the very same vehicle my Granddad had bought brand new in 1982.
I have recently checked the MID and have found that both the Defender and the Discovery 1 have not been taxed or MOT'd for over 10 years: I presume they've been scrapped. The Series 3 was last taxed and tested in 2016.
I'd just like to know what options are open to me in finding the registered keeper. Obviously I know the reg number but don't know how the forum/owner might feel about me divulging it over the internet.

Many thanks

not sure the DVLA hands out that sort out info. you could try some message boards for series clubs or a club in the area you last saw it.

Hi, thanks for the reply,
Yeah, unless the vehicle you're after has been in an accident and left the scene I don't think you'll get any joy from the DVLA. I have thought about putting it on various sites on facebook. To be honest, the state of the vehicle when I saw it 4 years ago it's a pretty good bet the vehicle resides in Glossop and not just driving through like I was.

I have been a member of a few car forums over the years and some people seem to lose their minds when a reg number is put on the internet - being new I was just being cautious!:)
I agree though- I went for a 20 minute drive this afternoon and saw about 400 vehicles and their number plates

Welcome to the forum. :) Plenty of folk post number plates on here to try and find previously owned vehicles.
Or, if you know someone who works for a parking ticket company, let them know. The DVLA will give them the personal details of the owner at the drop of a hat, no questions asked.
