Hi All, After getting the oil for the rear diff and reading a thread on this site stating that there was no drain plug i'd since given up the idea of doing it however I decided to have a go by syphoning the oil out, and I'm glad to report it worked. Using a suitable lenth of pipe slowly but surely after 40 mins. I managed to get about 80% of the old oil out. I have just had the drive shaft oil seal replaced in a garage but they had not topped up the oil so it was just aswell I checked, I know it's not a 100% oil change but better than none at all. The IRD is next on the list :)

When doing the IRD make sure you can undo the filler first, before removing the drain. Many have had problems with the filler, only to realise after draining the oil.

** Amendment to last post**

The Oil capacity for the final drive is 0.83 Ltr. so the 20% remaining out of the 1 Ltr. bottle means with this method is near enough a full oil change. :)

hi yes it is advisable to make sure the filler plug comes undone i did not and the end of the filler plug rounded in the end i welded a half inch drive to it (lucky the plug was metal and not alloy) then put a big bar on the end, lucky we have two freelanders as I had to use the wifes because I had to order the new filler plug
