Hi

I am looking to do away with the 6 way switch in a 1992 D90 FFR and just use a conventional light switch on the steering column. ( Side Lights, Dip and Main beam, Instruments ) I am not an auto electrician and don't want to cut and splice wires without knowing what I am doing and therefore create other potential electrical problems later.

Can someone please help me to identify which wires I need to connect to where and the correct size cable I Should use.

I have removed the convoy lamp from by the Rear X member already.

24V electric facility has already been removed before I purchased the vehicle if this has any bearing

Thanks for you help

no i dont know how to, but why would you want to remove it? its all very different to the standard wiring

but if you want the diargams join the EMLRA forum and they have it all on there

Done it on all my ex-MOD vehicles and on a 90/110 it is actually a very simple job (easier than on a Series vehicle or the 101), I think that from start to finish I had it all done on my 90 in about an hour.
The 24V system is totally separate to the vehicle electrics so while it makes no difference in your case it is no bad thing to get rid of it and any associated cabling etc.

I last did the switch change several years ago so I am afraid I am a bit short on precise details so you will still have to carry on looking for more information, if you were closer I would have done it for you.
The main vehicle wiring harness is practically identical to the civy one so you will find things like the column switch connector already exists behind the dash as does the wiring for reversing lights, a standard wiring diagram is what you require so you can identify wires by colour. All I can remember is that when you remove the rotary switch you have to connect the main cable through (I used a large in-line crimp and then insulated with heat-shrink) and possibly some of the smaller ones as well but it is there my memory fails me, sorry. There are no relays or anything like that involved as all changes are done at the switch positions.
As I say, if you were closer I would have done it for you.

Thank you both for the information, its a start at least.

I want to remove the switch so I can adapt and use the space for a radio.

I did look to see if there was a connector already behind the main dash panel, but could see nothing obvious and of the same fitment and direct connectability to the main light switch

Remove the steering column surround and the instruments, you should find the connector in there somewhere (remember it has never been used so it could well be tucked away).

Already done that and dug deeper than an Alabama tick to use the well known predator phrase.

There is no connector that I can see anywhere. Thats not to say it has not been removed at some stage in its history though I guess. Some fiddling has gone on behind there at some time.

Also seems to be limited information on the web on a fools guide to how to do this particular problem.

Just need to keep digging I guess

Noel,

I am doing the same job with my MOD 90 FFR,

I have located the multi plug that you need to connect the light switch too, it is right behind the clocks,

When you connect it up it will work the main beam but not the side lights.

You will need to run a Red cable from the harness end of the multi plug up to the harness end of the multi plug at the MOD 6 way switch.

Then by using 2 No male Bayonet crimps connect into the female holes on the multi plug that have 2 No red wires each.

If you only connect into one hole then you will either get the front or the rear side lights working.

I have some photos for you that i hop will help

Cheers

Mark
