Hello all

When driving forward or reversing (for example manouvering in a car park) it feels like the brakes are on quite hard. In a straight line the car freewheels perfectly, it only is like this on full lock.

This is my first Freelander so I'm not sure if this is normal.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Ralph

As MONDO says get your VCU checked ASAP although a certain amount of resistance is normal (according to LRO Magazine) it depends how bad it is.

This is probably normal, as it is a characteristic of lots of 4x4 cars.

Check the VCU using the "two blobs of paint" method ASAP.

Hi to everyone I'm new to all this mularkey however as well as getting the feeling of brakes being applied at full lock I also get a thud from the rear when changing gear but only when I'm cornering at all other times all is well I have been advised to fit a new front diff mount ( purchased will fit tomorrow ) as this is the most common part to fail
any other views would be very welcome

When yer say a new "front" diff mount, im assumin you mean the front of the rear diff ??? Cos yes these are a common failure, easy enough to fix and not too expensive.

Welcome BJsus ;)

Hi yes it is the front rear diff had a stab at it earlier but had to nip out to buy an inverted socket to undo the prop so will have another go in the morning is this the likely cause of my thud on gear changes when cornering
cheers

I agree, very likely to be the front rear diff mount.

(Of course, the really anal driver in me would say ... why are you changing gear on a corner?)

Let us know how you get on...

Did the wheel jacked up test and thought bloody hell it doesn't move!!

Then did the white line test and after alot of forward/reversing on full lock the lines move apart nicely:D

Quess I'm just weak:eek:

Thats a relief!

Thanks
