hi there can any one please give me some info as my x reg 1.8 freelander has fail its MOT on igmiitions just on the CO Part. The test centre said it could be the catalist on the exhust or head gasket blown. well there is no water in oil/oil in water but it is pluming out exhust more than it has done. tomorrow i will be borring compection tester to check the compesion of the clyinders dose any one know what should the clyinder compestion reading should be on a 1.8 k series engine thank you for your help

Aboslute top of my head, between 120 - 150PSI, and the figures should be between 10% of each other. Whip off the crank sensor plug to disable ignition and fuel when doing the check.

If you're not losing coolant, then I'd be more minded to look at the cat, especially if it original.

Before you do, is oil consumption negligible and is the oxygen sensor working. Never hurts to cover all the bases before splashing out.
