Evening gents,

I've got a P38 4.6 which is a little sick at the moment :(

When i start it it says "TRANSFER MANUAL", and this flashes up everynow and then.

If i try to change into low range, it doesn't. Neither does the L come up on the display.

So tomorrow i will take off the actuator to check if that is buggered, but i was wondering if my ecu is dead can i get a sencond hand replacement one and just do a straight swap ?

Cheers

Gordon

Quite possibly an ecu fault, the norm for these though, is they will go into low but won't come back out.

I would definately check the motor as they are prone to failing because they don't get used enough, its only a glorified defender wiper motor anyway!

You can fit a second hand ecu as they don't need to be programmed. There are several different part numbers, not sure why though as I've mixed and matched them before and they always work.

cheers for the reply, and i agree with the lack of use in low box. i work out the uk for half the year and when i'm back just use this landy for normal driving / towing my series.

tell me, if the actuator wasn't working would "L" not be displayed on the dash when the gear stick went across ?

I go into low range at least once a week just to keep it free'd up. From what I remember L doesnt appear until it has finished the change into low range.
