Faulty clutch

Hi iv just purchased a freelander 2000 1.8 petrol.
Iv just replaced The clutch and slave cylinder complete set.
I noticed the fluid was low in the top so I topped it up.started the car and now the clutch is very spongey and won't go into gear.any suggestions.

Did you bleed the clutch?

Cheers mate.with this been diesel is it the same procedure as my 1.8 petrol.

Check that the clip for the slave is holding it properly, and that the master cylinder connection is tight as well. On that age don't they come as a sealed pair?

That's right.iv put a new clip on and it all looks good.a friend sat in car and pressed the clutch a few times and its moving freely and I can't see any signs if leeks from any were.
