Hi everyone,

Had been mulling over buying one of these for a few months and after recent threads was abit apprehensive, but bought one because i hate paying someone for a job i can do myself, so did the maths and will save money in the long run. Which is what every P38 owner wants.

Anyway it arrived and i started to read the set-up instructions, now yes it is pretty intensive reading and learning alot of new information, but if you do as the instructions clearly state and follow it step by step you wont have a problem as i have found out.

So got my tup codes and have started to familiarize myself with it and have personally found it to be a brilliant addition to my toolbox and it will be of immeasurable help in the future.

Now as the thread says this is a personal view and i found the instructions clear, concise and pretty easy to follow considering i dont really use a computer that much, but can relate to instructions.

So to finish i would recommend this product for the home mechanic as i am and also commend BBS for producing a relatively cheap product for the masses. And no i've nothing to do with BBS just a very satisfied customer giving credit where its due.

Its Expensive but I think its worth every penny. The MSV-2 Extreme gives you the double bonus of fault code read/reset on the go from the glovebox with full diags when you get home and plug in the laptop, Top marks and the forum really is one of the best technical support areas I've ever seen, the BBS guys really do their best to help out.

Colin has his detractors here and on other forums and can come across a bit heavy but I really can't fault him, his company or his products

Well maybe just a teeny bit on the price:p

Haven't checked latest prices on their website, but I paid over £600 for an Extreme single vehicle version with leads etc. That doesn't include the expense of buying a laptop for it which I thought wasn't necessary as it has its own built-in screen, but no, you do need the laptop...... Mine isn't operational yet, bought it months ago now, but BBS Guy is now in the process of arranging the activation codes for me once I'm able to confirm a few more details from the car. Its extremely complicated to register (I've never come across such a convoluted process ever) but is an excellent piece of kit. Such a shame I have never been able to use mine because of the massive complexity of the registration process, and I am about to sell my Rangie after 5+years of ownership now, so it will never benefit me. I'd still recommend the product as it does its job well. The rest of the saga was unfortunate, but will hopefully end in a better situation than I have been in for the past few months now, with a working activated Faultmate.

hi spud, you never said a price, just how much is expensive

Same as Rangiegal, but I bought a laptop (which really bumps up postage costs) some extra leads and had to pay VAT too so all in mine came to about €1,200 (Sterling was strong at the time too which didn't help) over 18 months ago. But to be honest I haven't looked back since, its never been back to a stealers and I start every journey in the confidence that I can handle most problems that might arise.

Its hard to put a value on that safety net!!

Faultmate MSV-2 extreme owner:D

brilliant piece of kit ,cant fault it
hardware was a fair price but software modules can be rather expensive:(
allready had a laptop so no problem, will work without laptop but for more indepth diagnostics you do need a laptop:blabla:

Why thank you all for your many kind and positive comments,
and indeed DM68 for making this thread.

Excepting that Rangiegal has found our registration procedure most frustrating to her in particular, and we accept that there is always going to be room for improvement, but the process does have to take into account quite a lot of technical and flexibility aspects that are not readily apparent at the users end.

In fairness to the existing process, we do handle 2 or 3 new system registrations / activations per day, have now handled thousands, and by and large, the process, if followed exactly, typically goes very smoothly and quickly with most everyone easily being up and running inside an hour or two, as DM68 has found out.

For anyone who has a problem, we do provide our own technical support forum, which as Irishrover and SpudH comment, really is very good.

and how much is this piece of kit?
Haven't checked latest prices on their website, but I paid over £600 for an Extreme single vehicle version with leads etc. That doesn't include the expense of buying a laptop for it

Due to the rise in value of the GBP against the Euro, which is what our base prices are fixed to, and the fact that we are now generously offering established Landyzone forum members and additional 10% discount, actually the prices to UK buyers is now so low, i don't mind admitting that even i am still looking at the figures and thinking "that just can't be right", but it is, as i will explain.

As you just read, Rangiegal paid 600 GBP a few months back, but for an SV225 Extreme based kit for a P38 being purchased by an established forum member now, it comes to just 445.95 :eek::eek:
A Nano based system is just 402.75

There is of course VAT too, but again, anyone in the UK currently deciding to invest in a system will not pay VAT at the 17.5 rate of the UK, but the 15% Cyprus rate.

I note the additional Laptop comments to, so i would add that we can also supply used Panasonic CF27's which with discount, costs just 105.30. These are all metal, rugged units with their touch screen's are really ultra suitable for this job. But as noted, although we supply them at such a ridiculously low price ourselves, they do actually weigh quite a bit, which naturally adds a bit of a chunk to the postage.

I really don't want to come over all salesy and Pro BBS here, heaven knows i have enough of that with e-mails, PM's and so on, and i really do think everyone knows that our system is by far and away the best, without me banging on about it. But i hope you can all appreciate that I am the owner of BBS and as such i do feel compelled to respond to the "Expensive" association mentioned. After all, Expensive, really is only a relative term.
I will try to keep it short and sweet though :)

Sure an MSV-2 system is not exactly hobby money, but then it sure as hell really is no hobby type equipment either. As those who have invested in one, know only too well, the list of capabilities and features it offers is so endless, with the best will in the world, no one could actually document it all without ending up writing a book, hence no one, including me tries.

I really can appreciate anyone who has not taken the plunge and invested in our system thinking it seems too "expensive",
But i will share with you an absolute cast iron fact;
We at BBS have been supplying diagnostic equipment for all Land Rovers for over 10 years now, in that time we have supplied many thousands of systems to men, women and businesses, both big and small, costing from a few hundred to well over 10 thousand GBP. But not even once has anyone ever commented that in terms of capability and features, they did not get far more value for their money than they expected or that in some way, they did not get good value for their money.

I agree with Guy. It's a sound investment.

I invested in one on the recommendation of Irishrover.

Paid for itself pretty much right away.

Guy, you don't need to defend yourself. The independent testimonials that you receive are far more convincing!

You have a product to be proud of...

Steve
