hi
I have a problem with my 2002 discovery
when driving along it suddenly cuts out or goes into limp mode
the hill descent light and traction control light come on
it also flashes f 4 on the odometer display
it has been to a main dealer but they could not find a fault code
it has just had a full service , all filters changed etc
has anybody got any ideas what the problem may be
thanks
Terry

?? No idea what F4 on the dash is! A letter B next to the miles is bad news - BCU not talking to ECU.

Usually if the HDC and TC lights (amber ones) come on , then the ABS one illuminates too (see 3 amigos).

Auto or manual?

Also I see this is your first post. Get on over to the introduction section, say hello. :rules: Then post this up in the Discovery section ;)

Thinking about it, B with a slash across it, top right to bottom left on an electronic type display could quite easily be mis-read as F4.
I would say that it indicates a problem between the BCU and ECU as Difflock66 postulates.

(Am I allowed to say postulates?)

I take it that it's an auto? F4 on the dash means that there is a fault putting the gearbox into limp home.

Hi Mseries3
yes it is an automatic
have taken it to a gearbox specialist and to Guy Salmon main dealer
neither could find a fault code
the car cuts out or goes into limp mode these are both intermittent
normally restarts straight away , can drive 10 miles or 100 miles before it happens
Thanks
Terry
