HI I havnet driven my land rover series since about April, now i try to get a gear and cant when the engine is running, is i switch off i can get all the gears. If i start the engine i cannot get any, the gearstick will go to the reverse selection, when i press in the clutch all seems the same, its like the clutch is not disengaging from drive, the manual says the following

Driven plate sticking on input shaft
Driven plate sticking on flywheel due to oil contamination
broken pressure plate spring

Any ideas on how i would know without having to remove the gearbox. Would the oil contamination come from the transfer box oil ?

Any ideas would be great, Thanks

If I remember right the thing to do is try starting it in gear. probably what has happened is the clutch has stuck to the flywheel, This can happen if its been stood for quite a while. You can often wrench it off by starting it in gear.

If you try the above make sure its clear ahead and keep your foot on the clutch as you start, then blipping the accelerator as you drive, stamp hard on brake to stop.

Pretty common, clutch rusted closed. My method was to rev balls off and jam into third while stamping on the clutch and brake alternately....That was in a forty foot bus in a sixty foot space driving towards someone else's pride and joy...
