Hi
1.8 k series.
Two probs at the moment,

1. Both fans (air con and cooling) kick in as and when they want to, the temp gauge drops to cold, there is no detriment to performance / running any ideas?

2. Misfire on pot 4, any remedies?

I am asking as I am 'learning' to look after the hippo.

Possible head gasket failure
Distorted termostate-or it's been removed
steam bubbles on temperature sender can cause fans to operate while coolant shows cold

get a coolant sniff test done with gas analyser at garage-if HC rocket over header tank with engine running=hgf

Thanks for the reply, had compression test done when timing belt and water pump was changed, mechanic said every thing was ok. I have checked for usual signs of HGF ie mayo in oil, loss of coolant ect, but all seems clear. It has been going on for over two years, but I will check / replace thermostat as you advise.

compression test not conclusive, If you have replaced all associated ignition components and still have a miss dodgy injector or=cylinder fault next likely fault.

A cylinder loss tester is good for spotting faults
