fan viscous coupling !!!!!!!!

hi all
just a quick one ,checking a few things today and noticed that when the engine is hot.i can hold the fan with the engine running quite easily...
i.e keeping the unit stationary whilst the engine is running. also there is a small amount of rocking movement as if the bearing is on the way out. water pump was changed 6 months ago.
any ones honest opinion required cos i think its fookd
could this contribute to my temp guage rising almost to the red
engine is 4.6 v8

In a word, yes. The bottom line is, if you are suspicious about any part of the cooling system - replace it. Dont take any chances, the cooling systems on these big engines are not the best and if they get a little tired you can quickly get to an overheat situation and all the trouble that it brings. Get a new one.

Sounds like it's knackered, should have plenty of torque when hot I think. Get a new one or fit a big Kenlowe even better.
