okay heelo folks....

After having spent a few sheckles on a recent timing belt and been told that the Disco required the addition pulleys to avoid the over wear on the belt... all good so far???

a week after picking up the disco a squeal appeals naturally i investigate the annoyance and find the pulley on the fan belt has developed a fault on the bearing... now i find this is a regular problem....

I seen from landrover that you can only buy the whole section £75 ... So after trawling through pages on the Internet I elect to use the auction site E-Bay and see the pulley separate for £4.50 has anyone else used these and were they effective???

Thanks for any tips

I had my timing belt done at the last service and was told it had the old type pulley and would need a conversion pulley. Something about the possibility of the belt boving forward on the pulley and wearing prematurely. You say the fan belt has developed a bearing fault? which bearing?

Alas, the auxillary belt has an adjustable tension system I was told that they often fail on the bearings you can only get the whole part from a Landy garage but I saw on EBAY just the pulley for a few measley pounds sterling....

So I thought I would give this a try 1st..... also being mindful of trying to do things on the cheap sometimes comes back to bite you!!!:(

However I have a trip lined up going from England to Germany then onto Lithuania and Finally Latvia... Naturally I would prefer the Disco to be in fine fettle prior to the trip....

the replacement bearings work great....and f 3 quid cant be beat..
but now gerrin the old one off is a total two..hat. took me bout 2 hrs and several stabs in me hands wiv screwdriver...saved 70 quid on LR replacement parts..
just cost me 50 quid in bandages and germolene ;) :D  :)

Excuse me please for laughing at your reply:D not only was it humourous i get the notion that is was rather painful!!

I shall attempt to use the keyboard with scraped knuckles to let you guys know when the part arrives...

Many thanks Dave I trust that all is well now!!

hi, if your going to do this bearing replacement, before you start taking the bearing out soak the circlip with wd40 though I always use gt85 much better. than tap all around it 50 or 60 times to let the lubricant get through and then make sure the wife is out of ear shot. Because as Dave says its a bit of a GIT. Make sure you get a new circlip with the new bearing as you will almost certainly damage it. good luck. Beni

Thanks Beni,

I get the distinct feeling that it will be a simple task once you have work through the pain barrier!!

I do not think it comes with a circlip...is it possible to obtain from a Auto store?

Some of the auctions on ebay do include a circlip..if memory serves they go about 7 or 8 quid..still 10 times less than LR part.
the only hard bit is gettin the old one off..y need 2 small screwdrivers and loads of patience..the circlip is quite strong and doesnt have any holes to get a grip on..spose easiest thing is to trash the clip to get it out but as its the arnold swarzenegger of circlips its not that easy..
puttin clip back in is piece of **** tho..

an gettin belt back on is a laff a minute too...
am no mechanic, so always end up in a heap wettin meself, blood poorin all over..

Thanks for the link Dave

Thats the advert I had seen 20 minutes after I had bought the item on a buy it now.....

Same company but I think it did not have the circlip as the price was £4.50 plus posting........it looks like i shall have to put up with the squealing for another week until i get the time off to fix the darn thing.....

Thanks Gents for the help

Sounds like yours never got the new pulley from the famous 300tdi bog up, nearly all of them got the new parts as they were breaking belts at about 30k miles!

My fan belt use to squeel, like a bitch!!!
Changed the belt it cured the squeel straight away, it does squeel from time time, but seems to be mainly when it's sat there for a few days, and when it's damp. After it's been running for a couple of mins it's fine.
