Disco 2 FalconTyres

After a recent discussion with a friend I had a look at what tyres are on my Disco

The fronts are Michelin. The rears are Falken.

Now all of them have decent tread at the mo, but thinking of replacing the older Michelins with Falkens so I've got matching tyres all round.

Does anybody know how well Falkens suit the Disco 2?

One thing I'm trying to sort is a vague steering and a wandering at motorway speed

I can't comment on your choice of tyre manufacturer, but your wayward handling at speed could be any number of things from worn ball joints to worn out rubber parts or errors in the steering geometry, particularly tracking, but the first thing to check are the pressures. For the Disco 2, the "book" recommends the front at 30psi and the rear at 38psi for normal loading.

I decided to take the plunge and spend some more hard earned, and the front Michelins were starting to crack on the side walls.
2 new Falkens on the front to match the rear tyres,
Total transformation. Its nice to drive at any speed now, just how it should be.

After abit of trial and mainly error i stopped mine wandering by putting 36psi allround. Thats with bf goodrich all terains.

That might feel as if it's right to you, but the 300tdi Disco 1 Owner's Handbook does show the Land Rover recommended tyre pressures. The type or manufacturer of the tyre has very little influence on the pressures as it's largely based on the vehicle weight.
Apart from the safety aspect of incorrect tyre pressures, incorrect pressures will cause uneven tyre wear.
If you want to try "fine tuning" your tyre pressures the I'd recommend you employ the "Chalk test", details of which you should find here on the forum.

The issue with mine was obviously down to one make of tyre on the rear, and a different make on the front.
Now it's got the same make and type of tyre on the front and rear it drive so much better.
I had already checked all the steering and suspension over to eliminate anything like that.
