Some time ago whilst looking for something else on t'internet, I remember reading something about making alterations to the headlight cluster on a facelift discovery so that the strip indicators on the sides could have a bulb fitted which is how I understand they are on US spec vehicles.

Having had too many muppets pull out in front of me despite the fact that the vehicle is big and usually has the headlight on, I could do with making it as obvious as possible.

can anyone else recall seing the information or is there anyone out there who has done the work themselves?
Thanks

I have an American Spec D2 with facelift. Strange the things you never notice. I have two amber indicator lights in the headlamp cluster, what could be a sidestrip and a repeater on the wing. Only one of the indicator lights operate. Whats the second amber for ? Maybe the americans have two amber indicators... Cant see why. Owners manual makes no mention of a second light. Any ideas welcome before the screwdriver comes out.

Yes, when I took apart my headlights for modding, there is a bulb holder that will light up the side orange reflector strip - so you could put in a bulb with holder and wire into your side lights.

Have a look at my thread here:-

as when I re-did mine with LED's etc, I put a LED strip into the side of mine to light up the whole orange strip, which works with the side lights.

Hope this is of help.

Thanks Sturox, all is now clear. I take it from your set up that the UK spec has a separate sidelight ( under the amber indicator light). Mine has the sidelight incorporated in the larger of the beam lights. I guess for the US they had a choice of amber or white for what is your sidelight and went for amber as a blanking option. Very tempted to follow your lead, but am in the process of trying to register mine on Spanish plates and they are not happy with the spec as it is.

No problem.

Yes you are right, the UK has a separate side light which is under the indicator light.

Cheers
