Hi I'm new to the seen and am currently looking to buy my first Land Rover discovery 2 v8. I was wondering if there are any forums on Facebook at all? Also any tips for my first disco and also what aftermarket exhausts are good to get more of a v8 grumble??
Cheers

I'm looking for a 7 seater v8, Es or adventurer model, discovery, like a 2000-2003 year. I want to do a few mods to it to make it stand out a bit but not sure where to shop etc? Is a lower mileage one better than a higher miler with history?

Hi, I recently bought a 2000 es v8 with only 100k on the clock, good service history to about 80k, but I have now clocked up £1000s in bills as have had to replace air springs and compressor, shocks all round several coolant pipes, radiator thermostat etc.........oh and a new engine!!!!! Ouch. I've always had diesel defenders and though I knew what I was doing when it came to landrovers!!! Guess my point is if you are not a guru on this particular vehicle, take someone who is with you when looking at one, I have a friend who is a qualified landrover mechanic and wish I had asked him to come with me when I was shopping for mine!
But on the other hand now the old girl is running well I love her, just done a 2k trip to Southern France and back to visit parents for Xmas, and apart from the fuel bill it was the car to do it in.

Cheers, yeh I have a few mechanic friends so can take one of them along, one of them has a couple of land rovers so he will be the one to ask. I'm just waiting to sell my car then I'll be set. Just doin some research about them before I buy.

Few things to check (sure other landyzone users will add more to this list)
Check radiator hoses are not over pressurised after running, even better take a block tester kit with you to check for exhaust gasses in coolant, this will eliminate head and gasket problems and also my problem which was a failed liner.
Check chassis all over but especially near rear crossmember
Check if ace pipes are sound, the steel pipes that run along chassis are prone to rot and are v difficult and expensive to replace.
Also if you can try a look at the oil cooler pipes, especially gear box cooler pipes, mine were toast and tracking down ones for v8 is almost impossible and also they are over £100......each!

Also personally I would really AVOID disco that have;
Had air suspension removed (why would you do this? Cheap fix to easy problem!!!)
Are running on LPG, notoriously faulty, loss power and space. If you want MPG buy a diesel!!!

Hope this helps

Cheers, lots to look for! What about an aftermarket exhaust for one, any ideas on cost and which one to go for as I want the v8 to sound a bit more grumbly ?

There has been abit of talk about exhausts for D2 v8 with no real answer! It depends if you just want to swap the silencers or start at the cat and work back, and also do you want mild steel or stainless, price will change massively, but one word of advice is don't buy cheap they usually are a poor fit!! mijperformance would be a good start but they will be expensive as they are custom made. I've not gone down the exhaust route as pretty happy with the way mine sounds, nice and quiet on the motorway and pottering about but that all changes when you give it the beans!!

Haven't a clue really, just want it to sound more meaty and then when u floor it make it sound more tvr like lol
I've heard people mention taking out cats or doing straight thru pipe, and cherry bombs etc, but I haven't a clue what they on about, if it messes with emissions for mot, etc. I'm just looking for more sound, fairly cheaply, but not budget, and something that is liked by people as in tried and tested.
