Hi all. My 200tdi has decided to start leaking water from the expansion tank around the seam. I know this is a common problem so have decided to purchase a new one (I have glued as a temporary measure).

However I would like to replace it with a clear one so the level can be checked at a glance, has anyone done this yet? I have run a search with no luck.

Just to add to the need for a quick reply I am mountain climbing with the car this coming week and my friend in his shhhhh....Landcruiser 80 is coming with me (usual ****ing contest ect). So I need a quick answer if possible as I need to ship from UK to here in Spain and get it fitted asap.

Great, is this a bolt swap? If so I assume I can use the water level sensor as well?

Thanks for that

Hi!
Sorry but my post isn't really strictly Land Roveryish.

Where are you going Mountain climbing? Is it in Spain somewhere?

I iz askin 'cos I just bought my disco last month in hopes of using it to go touring and Mountain Climbing in Spain!! (need to get fit again first cos I iz 55 yrs. old now, Guess I'll be in the Lakes and Wales training soon)

Where is good in Spain? Pyrenees (what bit(s)?), Picos Da Europe? Anywhere else?

Where else have you been? France, Switz., Jermanee, Itlee, Ostreeya?

The bottle is the same as a discos. the sensor is in the cap on RR's also it's the later Tdi or 3.9 models bottle not the early 3.5 v8.

The sensor cap is around £40+ and will fit the discos black bottle I believe.
Also I understand it's not straight forward to wire up as it's linked to an ecu in the RRC.

Great stuff that exactly what I wanted!! The wiring will only be an 'either/or' circuit so no problems. I am trying to order the clear plastic bottle for a 3.9 RRC with sensor so this sounds good to me.

many thanks

Ooops! I think I have misled you. The car is used to climb the mountain not by hand/feet/ropes ect. We find deserted mountain tracks more often used by goats and we drive the cars up them to see who can get to the top in whatever your driving at the time.

It's great practise for the odd competitions they have here (see my posts elsewhere on this forum).

I have also lowered my Disco over a small cliff edge by winch to the beach below in San Juan de los Terreros to the amusement of the local Gaurdia Civil!

Have requested a quote for bottle nad cap (about £45.00) from famous four with some other odds and ends, I think modding the disco to accept the water level sensor might save a few other owners head gaskets so I will document anything worthwhile documenting and post accordingly,

many thanks

Update! I cancelled the order with 'Famous Four' as they quoted me £130.00 plus vat for express delivery to Spain!!

So my original order (£125.06 all in):) which included incidental items like pedal rubbers ect I was happy with, eventually became £245.81!!!!!!

Ah well I'm off to ebay.

Ok Dave2000, had a look in my RRC parts catalogue and the part no's are ESR63 expansion bottle but has now been superseeded to PCF101590 so you must check if it's still opaque, Rimmer Bros want £43.13 inc vat but plus p&p.

The cap/sensor is PRC7925 Rimmers want £40.97 inc vat but plus p&p.

I have ordered the parts from Holland Land Rover via ebay. The prices were good and delivery (two day) was £17.00 inc vat!!!

I must thank you for your efforts though it is good to have such help with numbers ect.

I have the 200tdi parts CD so standard parts ect are OK but when it comes to doing a few mods help from elsewhere is often needed.

many thanks
