Need a few opinions from you boys on extra lights:D I bought my S3 88" a few months ago & am slowly getting her to how I want! Its only used for greenlaning & maybe the odd pay & play.Im no rivet counter but do want to keep it looking decent so the question on where to mount extra spots has me a bit undecided. A light bar or fitted to the bumper, round or rectangular?
A light bar could look quite good as the "88 has that "tonka" type feel to it but Im not convinced:crazy:

I'd go for a light bar with like narrow rectangular lights fitted. An Abar looks bad on a series IMHO, but then I'm biased :D Spots just fitted to the bumper look okay though especially if you go for age related looking lights (the old round spots)

I reckon just round spots bolted straight on to the bumper.
Each to their own but square lamps and light bars just make it look like Wembley stadium - more suited to Fenders.

I made some brackets years ago that bolted to the bulkhead where the screen mounts and fitted my spots there, worked pretty good cos i angled them to the side a bit to get a wider spread of light for laning.

below is a picture of my 1965 109 with a period correct pair of aftermarket lamps fitted although these are fitted more for show than lighting the road, i consider this position to be the best in looks and practicality

A-bars are a pain when you want to get in the engine bay

a S3 would look fine with a pair of Lucas Square 8's fitted similarly, these can be found in 3 different lens flavours (yellow fog, driving lamps and spotlamps) then there's 3 different casings (black plastic, black crinkle finish steel and polished chromed steel) all with 55w halogen bulbs

black crinkle finished Square 8 driving lamps would get my vote on a S3, the spots are a very focussed pencil beam

there's a couple of things you may want to consider when fitting extra lighting, first will your charging system cope ?? second i'd suggest fitting fused relays to supply them

another thing is are your original lights nice and bright ?? if not then again it's worth fitting fused relays to ensure you get full voltage/current to them due to the age of the original wiring, connectors and switches, this on it's own makes a massive difference to the light output

I have mine bolted staight to the bumper like above on my S3. They were on an A bar when I bought it but I definitely prefer it the way it is now.

I've got 2 bolted infront of the radiator where they were originally, 2 in the wings as per the S3 then a roof bar with 4 on... though the lights are all f**ked... that's what you get for buying crap at LRO shows :/

What I plan to do with mine is put 4 round age related lights on the roof rack (2 to come on with high beam and the other 2 as work lights) and also have 1 round worklight by the back door :) It did come with a horrifically bad A-bar which we had a lot of fun chopping off with a grinder :)

Looking thru all the replies(thanks!) I think it will be the bumper ;) I love light bars but they are more for looks than anything else & how often do I lane at night? Not much at all if Im honest with myself!
Will have to buy some round ones as have only got rectangulars in the shed:(

If it's just for off road use fit them any way you want and wire them via a fuse and a big chunky switch on the dash. If you need it road legal then the bracketry needs to be a bit safer and you'll have to wire the lights via a relay in such a way that they only come on with main beam.
