exhaust manifold

Hi, my first post. I have a swb series 3 1982 2.25 petrol and have stripped it down and starting on a slow rebuild as my covid project while I work from home. so far mainly buying new tools, sorting out the chassis and leafsprings....anyway, i have come across the below copper pipe that exits the exhaust manifold and ends up in the round part...I am not sure it was even connected to anything. any idea of what it is or where I can get one, .......I can't seem to find manifolds on the web or in the green book that has this item.....any thoughts

Guessing it is a vacuum unit, either to advance and retard the distributor, or for something else that needs vacuum.

Bet you 50p that is emissisons related somehow, if you look closely at the vac unit itself the main sides of the body are open to atmosphere, so when a vacuum is applied to the nipple at the top of the unit, it lifts a plunger insde allowing air into the exhaust system?

Hi and many thanks, I clearly owe you 50 p. I managed to locate a Landy mechanic and he says, It appears my engine is a European detoxed, the engine has a valve (the round bit) for exhaust gas recycling. It was an attempt at emissions control. As I have a Weber carb, it doesn't connect to the valve as the original carb would have done. Basically take it off and blank off where the pipe enters the exhaust manifold as it's not doing anything. , which is good news as the pipe (which snapped when I removed it is 50 quid) and the valve 99 + vat....also I do remember it not being connected to anything so makes complete sense....
 


Bugger should have bet more, story of my life!

Keep the old parts if you have the space, someone somehwere in the future will want them rare parts, and be prepared to pay for them.
