Hello everyone, enjoying the forum so far and learned loads just from reading about other peoples problems.
Now i think i've got a problem. I checked my propshafts for movement today. The rear one looks fine and there is no play. But i can rotate the front one about half and inch side to side and i can hear a clunking in the transfer box when i'm moving it. The whole thing moves, the tube, the uj's and the 'bits going into the transfer box and the axle'.

What is going on? Any ideas and advice would be much appreciated

If it's rotation it's normal, if it's side to side or up and down movement yer output shaft bearing is goosed. Check the rear one with the handbrake off.

Yes, it's definately just rotational movement. I'll check the rear propshaft with the handbrake off 2morro.

cheers

Mine does that as well, I think its just turning the gears in the transfer box a bit. I have seen that in other boxes as well. There has to be some play in gears and obviously there is play in the diff gears allowing you to turn the transfer box.

I take it you mean that the side to side is rotational and not laterally.

Worth waiting to see what others say.

They usually have a certain amount of slack in the transmission. So long as you can't move the shaft up and down or side to side it's fine.

funny, i noticed the same thing today and put a post up. Apparently its normal if it rotates and long as their is no play. Up to 1/8 of turn in ok/normal.

Check the "is this normal" post from earlier
