Hi, I have a 1977 Series 3 petrol Landy. I have been driving it for the last 6 months with no problems, but now, once it has been parked up overnight, I get a very excessive judder when I apply the brakes. The fault is as follows:
  • After being parked in the garage overnight the landy starts and drives out of the garage fine
  • However, as soon as I apply the brakes (gently), I get a very serious judder that seems to shake the whole vehicle. If I come off the brake the judder disappears
  • Despite the judder the vehicle stops (although I am only in 1st gear on drive
  • The judder happens whether the clutch is in or out
  • If I reverse and brake the judder does not happen, which is odd?
  • If I drive backwards and forwards a couple of times, the judder (when driving forwards) continues, but after about half a dozen goes the judder disappears and the Landy drives fine for the rest of the day.
  • After another night in the garage the judder reappears when I drive out of the garage again!
Any thoughts on what could be causing this?
Thanks

Sounds like you need to chamfer the leading brake shoe a little more ,leading shoe is probably catching drum and applying brake.
Worth checking brakes out and wheel bearings whilst you have it jacked up.
Also check anchor ring is attached to trailing shoe.
