Good morning all.

Wondered if anyone can help,

My Evoque Pure 2013 60k has developed a whining noise. It’s difficult to pinpoint the cause of the problem. Had it into local specialist who is leaning towards rear diff but not entirely sure. Noise is low whine, pretty constant even when in neutral and coasting but perhaps a bit more prominent when coasting downhill. Have changed all four tyres for originals.

Difficult I know but any suggestion or how to diagnose a bit more accurately?

Is the noise proportional to vehicle speed or engine speed?

the noise is at the moment fairly low key and doesn’t seem speed related other than it seems to kick in at 30 mph +.

Had 4 original tyres recently fitted on the advice of my regular garage who had it on the ramp with wheels spinning but can’t locate noise.

local specialist (not accredited) seems to think rear diff, but to my mind noise is nearer front.

Very confusing...is it rear diff/Haldex/PTU/wheel bearing??

If someone leans into the boot from the rear seats you can normally hear if the noise if from the rear. A rear whine can be rear diff, haldex or wheel bearings. Problem with spinning wheels in the air is the loading of the car is different so noises change. I had a similar problem on a FL1 and bought a set of chassis ears so I could try to locate a whine while listening to the microphones located in different places.

You could remove the rear diff and haldex, as a process of elimination to see if the problem stops.

Can you hear the noise if you stand by the side of the road and someone drives yer car past you at differing speeds?
 
Hilarious that the only one who wants anything to do with this is the gaylander owner. More proof, if proof was needed that the ejoke is indeed the gaylander mk3.

Its a shame yer can't get involved with helping peeps out with problems, so resort to posting cr*p about evoques. It must really annoy you that the range rover evoque eggsists. Its as if you hide behind range rover ownership to somehow cancel out yer own inadequacies. Yer just like a footballers wife. Owning a rr as a status symbol.
