Erg Advice

Hi All

First question to ask of you guy's now i'm signed up.Been reading about something called an ERG.Can someone enlighten me as to what it is,what it is supposed to do,and what are the advantages of,blocking it off.Have a 2000 Disco Auto,so do i actually have one.

yes you do have one - get rid of it NOW - blanking plate costs a fiver of ebay & it takes 15 mins to fit.

I assume we're talking about EGR?

Agreed with BurtonBoy, you'll notice the changes when you remove it, a few people say that it makes a massive performance boost but this will only happen if the EGR valve its self is not working properly/stuckopen. So you won't get a massive performance boost...your motor will just perform like it did before it went wrong

hi just got a td4 02 plate .. reading on this erg i see kits for about 30 quid can be brought, why can you not just make a bkanking plate between the erg and manifold then block the pipes off , cheaper than 30 quid , buy a blank plate for 4 quid

People do that. For p38s with the EGR you can use a 2p coin and blank it with that!

Got a spare one at home, that was taken off my old 300tdi, full kit if younwould like to make an offer for it.

Just for the record, an ERG (short for ergon, a Greek word meaning "work/task") is a unit of energy and mechanical work equal to 0.0000001 joule. It originated in the centimetre–gram–second (CGS) system of units, symbol "erg". It is not an SI unit.

In other words an erg is approximately the amount of work done (or energy consumed) by one common house fly performing one "push up", the leg-bending dip that brings its mouth to the surface on which it stands and back up.
